FORGET BANKS, WE CAN DO THIS!

The Slovenian startup ecosystem consists of more than 1,400 people in over 150 companies that have raised at least $53 million in capital and seen $30 million in exits between 2007 and 2013.

“If you hadn't read it in the papers, it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Slovenian startups are showing strong growth, and they are doing it on their own terms. Globally.”
—Aleš Špetič, digital champion of Slovenia

Slovenian startups are very diverse

More Slovenian startups have joined accelerators around the world than in all the 5 preceeding years combined.

  • 15 startups
  • 3 continents
  • $670,000 in funding

Showcase: Wayra

Since its inception in 2012, Wayra has accepted more Slovenian startups than any other accelerator. EqualEyes is building software for vision impaired users, JollyDeck is creating new tools for corporate training, Peekster is "Shazam for print", iHELP is connecting heart patients and first-aid volunteers, all four in London, and Naymit is developing "bit.ly for locations" at Wayra Berlin.

2013: Crowdfunding goes crazy

Crowdfunding is the collective effort of individuals who network and pool their money, usually via the Internet, to support efforts initiated by other people or organizations.

  • 10+ projects
  • 10,003 backers
  • $1,028,302 crowdfunded
  • 8 successfully backed
  • 4 fails
